I wonder if people believe in this because of how the body "shrinks" after 48h of eating healthy (which is usually what people do as soon as they start a detox). I know that during holiday season, when I eat a lot of "crap", I weigh myself after Christmas I gained like 5lbs/2.5kg, and when I put a stop to it and eat small healthy portions, after two days, on the scale, I only weigh about 1lbs/0.5kg more than I used to. And that much weight in fat is not lost in 2 days, so it's probably water retention. But if if happens with people who start doing healthy stuff along with detox tees, that might reinforce the idea that it works?
I do wonder: what makes the body retain more fluids and feel swollen when you eat bad stuff for a while? During christmas time, it's mostly sweets, and not salt, so where does that water retention come from, Dr Mike?

A friend once recommended me a Kusmi “BB Detox” tea. I looked at him like he was an idiot, then he said “I know, I know, detox is bullshit, but that tea is DELICIOUS!”
And does it have to be anything more than that? I have read that tea (particularly green) is good for you (far from being a panacea tho), and since it has great taste, we tend to drink more of it, which helps us be hydrated (and seems like most people don’t drink enough daily), also, drinking before meals makes us eat less. So in that way – yay teas.

The only reason, I think, to take a supplement is when it is advised by a physician. Due to certain conditions, my blood tests were done and it was found that I could not make sufficient Vitamin D, among others. I was also anemic.

So? I took supplements as I was asked, had a blood test 6 months later, and once my levels returned to normal, I was asked to no longer take them (as regularly as I had).

Other than a medical condition where you can't absorb nutrients or some other disease, my doctor informed me that people actually get poisoned by taking Iron tablets when they do not need to, and it can cause terrible problems.

tl;dr trust the person who spent 9 years studying in his field over a company that wants to maximise profits.

This is so true. Also for diets sometimes. Sometimes, because everyone is different. For me, All I have to do is eat a little less, and I lose weight. I don't recommend this, it could hurt you if you don't eat a lot. For it to work in my experience, You still have to eat, but eat a little less. If you don't eat, you develop an eating disorder. But, don't trust me with your diet, you need to go to your doctor and ask if it works for you.

Edit: If you don't eat at ALL, you could GAIN WEIGHT.

I actually have a "detox" tea called "Super Detox" in my collection. I got it from a local little family tea shop that makes their own lose leaf tea mixes. It's no more expensive than their other mixes and I know it doesn't do anything special but I just love the flavor. It's a green tea, white tea, lemongrass, ginger, nettle and matcha mix that just tastes great and refreshing. The owners themselves freely tell people that while tea has it's health benefits, it's not a miracle drug and for serious matters to go consult your doctor.

I was half-blind with excruciating pain I couldn't help for a solid five minutes or so, and her response to my alarm was "It's natural, you're going to be fine!"

There are drugs the fda approves that are more far more dangerous than a cup of tea I can personally attest to that because I’ve been a victim of some of those doctor prescribed drugs. So is the real issue that people are making false claims about what the product does.

I know of people who have drank detox drinks and passed a THC drug test. While they were still high. I also know people who drink apple cider vinegar for 3 days and pass drug tests. I use those as examples because THC stays in your system so long. So do those just mask a positive result?

Weight loss is all about diet and exercise. There are some home remedies I truly believe in though.

Ginger and lemon tea is great for soothing a sore throat and cough. So is raw honey, but the benefit seems short lived.

One thing I will make when sick is a bowl of chicken noodle soup. I will add cayenne pepper and a clove of garlic after the soup cools a bit. Something about cooking garlic apparently breaks down a beneficial compound.

Garlic shortening a cold is not very well studied, but it is known for its anti-viral properties. Now by the time the chemical in garlic gets to your blood, it is heavily diluted, so I would consider it a help more than a miracle cure.

Really, the main benefit of garlic is its anti-inflammatory properties. A lot of discomfort from illness is caused by inflammation.

Cayenne pepper can help clear your sinuses and cause the release of endorphins.

I don’t know how some people buy into these scams, but some remedies have a bit of truth to them. Though no cure alls yet.

And don't forget "Natural" isn't always natural at all. MANY companies have been busted for having prescription drugs in their "natural" products (you can search the database at the FDA website archive for product recalls and see many examples). 🙁 Anything to make a buck and they don't care who is harmed along the way. I have no problem with using certain natural remedies, but know where you are getting them, how they are produced, and avoid any product using "hype" marketing. Even the most natural of substances can have side effects. Discuss anything you are taking with a competent health care professional who is familiar with supplements and natural remedies. Make sure your prescriber knows what you are taking BEFORE taking with prescribed medications, as many natural substances can interfere with or interact with prescription medicines. Knowledge is power. Arm yourself.
