Is Breakfast Really the Most Important Meal of the Day?

Mhmmm, breakfast.
Nothing like starting off the day with some
whole grain oats, vitamins and nutrients.
I mean surely nobody has anything bad to say about the most important meal of the day!
Breakfast seems pretty non-controversial.
But ask someone who has it everyday to just
skip it?
Absolutely not.
Sorry, I like my English muffins.
Little bit of peanut butter. Tiny bit of honey. Sorry.
Besides, there’s all this news about how
breakfast is good for your health.
I mean, except when there’s all this other news about how it’s not.
Now, most of these headlines claim to be based
on the results on scientific studies, so what’s
going on with this back-and-forth research?
The most recent study that headlines went
wild with claims that skipping breakfast leads
to heart disease.
The study examined the health and diets of
around 4,000 middle-aged bank workers….which
might be because a Spanish bank was partly
funding the study.
The researchers found that those who did not
eat breakfast had more plaque in their arteries,
putting them at higher risk for heart disease.
But, looking more closely, there are some
caveats to the study.
Like, only 3% of the participating bank workers self-reported as having skipped breakfast entirely.
Many of those studied ate a low-calorie meal
in the morning.
And all of the data was gathered by having
the participants self-report on what and when
they had eaten over the previous 15 days.
Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t even remember what I was eating at the beginning of this video.
Oh right.
The lead researcher of the study also admits
that the results aren’t directly related
to eating breakfast per se.
It has more to do with what happens when someone
skips breakfast.
He said that skipping breakfast disrupts the
body’s internal clock, prompting people
to consume more calories throughout the later part of the day than they normally would.
But other researchers have said that there
doesn’t seem to be anything in this particular
study that provides evidence for that theory.
This of course is only the latest study to
examine the great breakfast question.
Researchers have been fascinated about our
morning eating habits for decades.
The first big study on the subject was carried
out in Alameda County, California in the 1960s.
Researchers documented the everyday habits of the county residents and found that eating
breakfast tended to be associated with improved
health and longer lifespans, as did getting
a good night’s sleep and exercising regularly.
And since then, multiple studies have tried
to determine if skipping breakfast can be
associated with weight gain and overall poorer
But it turns out there is no conclusive proof
that this is the case.
For example, one recent study looked at the
eating habits of 12,000 Canadian adults, and
the conclusion was that “breakfast consumption was not consistently associated with differences
in body mass index or overweight prevalence.”
So if you love breakfast, load up on the bacon and flapjacks.
And if you don’t, enjoy that sweet, sweet
20 minutes of extra sleep in the morning.
There is no real scientific proof to back
either lifestyle.
So you should probably ignore the headlines
and do whatever works for you.
Now whether you skip breakfast or not, you have to eat eventually, so check out this video

    It blows my mind how poorly diet/nutrition is understood in the U.S. I'll make it simple, skip breakfast and go light on carbs throughout the afternoon and evening (just limit carbs in general and cut out sugar completely) and your weight will improve and your blood work will improve. Give it two months and you will be astonished at how your body has transformed.

    The important thing about breakfast is that its the first food you will ingest after waking up, that means its the first source of energy you'll get. Its not really a problem if you dont have breakfast (although you may feel less energetic) but what to eat as breakfast, since the body responds different to different sources of energy

    This is a really shitty breakdown. The study countering the idea that you didn't need to eat breakfast only failed to find a link between having breakfast and not being fat, which isn't the same thing as being healthy overall.

    If your going to do hard manual labor, chopping wood, long hikes, heavy lifting… eat a big breakfast, if your going to be sitting a a desk all day eat a small breakfast. thats what I usally do.

    WHAT!?!? im NOT EVEN GONA HEAR U UNTIL I CRITICIZE THIS NAME BREAKFAST IS TOTALLY THE MOST UNHEALTHY THING.. i EAT ONCE IN 20 HOURS IF I LIVE PROPERLY.. i RUn in singlet.. during winter n shortpants and run ultramarathons.. U cant examine enough ppl for this and there's all kinds of different ppl U CAnt at all say this is For MOST Or all ppl, people change drastically SPECIFICALLy ABOUTTHISTOPIC!!!!!!! the more u eat more fat u gain and u get sleepier, eat in the night as much as u can transform like a cow/horse during night and have enery for the day. I lose a lot more energy in heat without movnig, during winter barely need eat and much lese ven to drink despite moving sporting more. and in sumer without sports i fckin .. like.. mm get so much more.. energy loses. Unless its ultramarathon or u wore many things and got hot. which burns sugar.. more hotness usualy.. Eat as low as u can and learn from married with children comedy series, which pretty much is a reality for me and smoe other vegna guys(Am not vegan i eat meat more rarely tho its not tasty not fills the hunger and especially for marathoners need more like rice n potatoes)- .. eating a little very often ovearll is universally best but depends on intensity +++ how much ull be busy if u know ull be hungry when u go cinema later on, or busy with work all day and 10)% no br.eak time.. then u might have worth to eat.. but overall.. no. and well for races somethies..times this exeption as well but until 10km or even 20km u should be fine, especially if its cold.. ok now i gues i can hear what he said.. i think he had a hapy ending overall or natural, not saying that healthiness i mean breakfast is healthy.. but depepdepends on person n stuf. after run ultramarathon or skiping evening eating u might have to eat in morning but usually i have saliva n other things to get out o my system, helps with cold water+exercises n some time to pass.. and if ie at that bad saliva when after waking up will be swallowed n stuff, trouble in speech n other things annoyingness uncomfort. Just drink water.. i even stoped doing teaas in the morning used to drink 3 teas a day.. well if i live normaly still do 450 ml usually is best.. but lately.. not to go to toile t toomuhc,in winterl ike less.. 200 ml one tea maybe but usually aim 3 a day.. but im kinda busy n so many things doing.. but yea 3 teas a day shold be fine overll.

    Food gives u calories, its basically ur daily energy intake, skip a meal and ur gonna have less energy untill next meal thats just it, have u ever jogged before breakfast? Yes? Well u notice that u dont got shit for energy.

    Summary: if u work physicaly, DO NOT skip breakfast, otherwise skipping breakfast might be and option. (More for the hollywood moms searching for miracle fasting methods.(not saying there aren't some good ones))
