Shakeology (vegan) Meal Replacement vs. Vega One Shake

Hi, I’m Lanna. Have you ever wanted to try
either Vega One Shake or Shakeology but you
don’t know which one is better? I have been
using them for quite a while and I’ll tell
you what I think the differences are, and
an experiment I did recently.
First of all, the cost. Cost is a huge reason
to not buy something, right? Vega One costs
about $2.72 per serving of 44 grams. and Shakeology
costs $4 per serving of 44 grams. So, that
means Shakeology is 1.5 times the price of
Vega One. Does that mean Shakeology is a higher
quality product? Not necessarily. I looked
at the ingredients of the two – they’re very
similar. They both have brown rice protein,
pea protein, SaviSeed protein, maca, Goji
Berry, acai, and lots of other super foods.
Both have 16 grams of protein, no soy, no
artificial sweetener. But Shakeology has 9
grams of sugar – Vega One has only 1 gram
of sugar per serving. So that is a pretty
big difference for people who don’t want to
take extra sugar in their protein shakes.
Now, I’m going to tell you about an experiment
that I did recently. I have been doing this
kettlebell workout routine for about three
years. And by the way, I’m a huge fan of kettlebell.
Every time I do this workout routine, I get
really really sore for two days afterwards.
A couple of weeks ago, I did this routine
and I took Shakeology right afterwards. Guess
what? The next day I woke up, I was not sore.
I was tired, but not sore at all. Wow! Interesting.
I wonder why.
So I thought maybe I’m getting stronger. Then
I look in the mirror and I didn’t see any
difference. So I thought okay, there must
be something with Shakeology that’s making
me not so sore. I went ahead and did the same
routine the following week and took Vega One
– and guess what? I was really sore the next
two days. I still wasn’t convinced. I thought
okay, let me try again. So the third week,
I did the same workout routine and took Shakeology
afterwards . Guess what? I was not sore, again,
the second time.
That’s when I thought, okay, there’s got to
be something going on with Shakeology. I need
to find out what it is. I went back and started
reading the label. At the very bottom of it,
it says MSM 250 mg. So I Googled it — MSM,
it turns out, is supposed to help with muscle
pain and joint pain; and it’s supposed to
be safe according to sources like WebMD. MSM
is not in Vega One. It’s pretty inexpensive.
So I figured I would not choose Shakeology
over Vega One simply for the benefit of MSM.
Because I can just go buy a bottle of MSM
if I wanted to use it for muscle pain, and
it’s pretty inexpensive.
The last thing I want to mention is, if you’re
using these meal replacement shakes because
you want to lose weight, neither one is very
filling. I get hungry two hours after I have
one of these. Of course, you can add more
fruits and vegetables, proteins, nut butter
to give it more volume and make it more filling,
but that’s going to add a lot more calories
in your shake. Not exactly what you want to
be doing when you’re trying to lose weight,
The bottom line is guys – if you already on
a whole food plant-based clean diet and you’re
using Vega One, I really don’t think you’re
going to see a huge difference going from
Vega One to Shakeology. But on the other hand,
if you haven’t used any of these products,
and your diet is not so great, you’re going
to be happy with either one because they are
really high quality products. The question
is: How much are you willing to spend?

i eat garden of life protein, and manitoba harvest protein…

  2. mysciencenow Posted on July 26, 2013 at 10:41 pm

yeah i do use the G.of. most, more than once a day usually… and with 1.5 scoops…. i dont think the manitoba dissolves well so i am going to try and use it in salad and oatmeal more probably instead of drinks…// i have been adding most times 24 oz. coconut milk, 1.5 tbsp cocoa powder, chia seeds, tsp cinnamon, 2 banana, pinch cayenne, and the G.of. protein… its great!!

  3. mysciencenow Posted on July 27, 2013 at 3:20 am

yes i would like to see how you make protein bars.. i have made a lot of granola bars, they are never very good but i eat them all

  4. Timothy E Brummund Posted on July 30, 2013 at 4:14 pm

    I completely agree!!!

  5. Brian Warner Posted on August 26, 2013 at 6:16 pm

A very fair review. I liked the comparison. my main problem with shakeology is the sheer price… it's like 2/3rds of my car payment for a month supply. I'll check out Vega One.

  6. Mori Welborn Posted on August 31, 2013 at 5:23 am

SHAKEOLOGY saved my LIFE so I will NEVER stop using it! I was diagnosed as a few points away from becoming a diabetic & after drinking Shakeology for about 8 months my insulin dropped into the OPTIMAL range so therefore it saved ME! I also fills me up for hours at a time & everyone I know that takes it LOVES it. MY BODY is worth having "THE BEST" 🙂

  7. Ighouda Posted on December 18, 2013 at 5:45 pm

Do you personally think it's safe to use MSM on a daily basis? Or every once in a while?

  8. Annick Doudou Posted on January 23, 2014 at 11:47 pm

total agree, shakelogy is too expensive and all blabla u cant only get it through a coach, what wrong with beachbody!!! if is so good product then let anybody get it anywhere

  9. Zonia Kelley Posted on March 6, 2014 at 9:11 pm

I have used both Shakeology and Vega One.  I actually became a Beachbody Coach to get the discounted price of Shakeology of $97 per bag (30Servings).  It got too expensive for me, even as a coach.  I heard about Vega One and that it was very similar to shakeology for a lower price, so I decided to give it a try.  I really like Vega One and with almost a mirror of ingredients it makes more sense to me to purchase the Vega One.  Even with the cost of servings which was mentioned as a coach you can get the cheaper price, making it 50 cents difference between the two, you can find Vega One on sale all the time, and there is no shipping costs when purchasing Vega One from several online retailers, and you can also find it at the local Whole Foods.  I recently purchased 2 cans of Vega One at buy one get one half off.  Shakeology never has these types of sales.  I do like Shakeology as well, but the price keeps me from buying it.

What is your favorite flavor of Vega One? I tried a sample packet of the berry and didn't like it much. Tropical fruit wasn't bad.

  11. estoniaforever Posted on March 30, 2014 at 1:34 pm

Which one does taste better? Shakeology or Vega? Thank you 🙂

  12. Prince 52boxing MMA Posted on May 23, 2014 at 4:24 pm

Have you tried Raw meal? I wonder how all three of them stack up

  13. HatersLoveHatee Posted on July 5, 2014 at 7:17 pm

I have been working out and drinking Shakeology, but Shakeology is too expensive for a college student like myself. I love what Shakeology does for me I get energy, keeps me full, it has helped me lose weight, and it helps with my digestion. I need some type of alternative something I can afford what would you recommend. I need help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

  14. 30deblanc Posted on July 9, 2014 at 10:53 pm

I'm taking Vega One as a meal replacement to loose weight plus HCActive Garcinia Cambogia Extract but couldn't figure out why I'm so hungry after about 2 hours. What can be recommended to take along with Vega One to keep the hunger down?

  15. Slobodan Dzikoski Posted on July 11, 2014 at 3:52 am

CAn you make review on HErbalife..And strictly on the ALERGEN Formula ..If you can 😀

  16. Theodore Potter Posted on August 15, 2014 at 3:52 am

She mentioned being hungry two hours after taking these and things you could add to the shakes to fill you up. I noticed she didn't mention fiber. The human body cannot digest fiber– it puffs up in your stomach and makes you feel fuller longer and then passes through your digestive system to come out the other end as poop. It also helps with regularity and controlling food cravings. Just an idea, but if you aren't full for very long afterwards, maybe add some fiber to the shake?

You are very informative, intelligent, and to the point. I love your videos. Great work!

Thanks for this comparison, I was wondering about these two shakes and what the differences are. You are so pretty!

  19. Anee Angel Posted on January 15, 2015 at 5:43 pm

    Can you try arbonne shakes?

  24. Laura Lemonade Posted on March 16, 2015 at 8:13 pm

thanks, best review i've seen so far!

  25. karin collado Posted on March 20, 2015 at 3:29 am

we all know we all prefer shakeology……theyre just so damn expensive! i wouldnt spend more than $60 on it

  26. Monica carroccio Posted on June 12, 2015 at 1:45 pm

the vitamins don't compare to shakeology — You'd have to drink two shakes a day to the one shake you need with shakeology to get the same amount of vitamins and minerals needed for day  therefore your price will be bumped up!  And who wants to drink 2 shakes a day if you DON'T have to!

  27. Pamela Schmidlin Posted on August 21, 2015 at 2:10 pm

Beautiful review and info, if your anywhere in the NY area or east coast I'd love to do a video with you!

  28. Ray Ramirez Posted on September 3, 2015 at 1:57 am

i want to thank you very much!!!! i dont drink shakes but, I accidentally some how wond up seeing your video and you mentioned MSM so i decided to buy it as supplement to take. i have had lots of pain from arthritis caused by the aggressive ulcerative colitis ive had for more than 10yrs. i have taken MSM for 3 weeks now and i feel amazing!!!! god bless you and thank you from the bottom of my heart

  29. durian74 Posted on September 22, 2015 at 1:09 pm

Vega One and Vega Sports is my option. 👍🏼

  30. Jeyna P. Posted on October 14, 2015 at 11:31 pm

Thank you for an honest, unbiased opinion!!! It's appreciated 🙂 I have been thinking of switching from Shakeology to Vega one because Shakeology is just not in my budget anymore. Sometimes I just want to have a shake in the morning since it's such a quick breakfast (with a little added fruit and spinach). It's nice to see that I won't be making a huge sacrifice in quality by switching 🙂

  31. nikmsty1 Posted on January 23, 2016 at 4:35 pm

I really appreciated this video. I use beach body videos for my exercise routine, but the cost of Shakeology isn't in my budget. I was looking for an alternative to it, so I'm going to try Vega One Shakes. Thanks again…

  32. Sophie Somerfeldt Posted on April 23, 2016 at 2:02 pm

What a breath of fresh air! I have watched well over a dozen video "reviews" on Skakeology and Shakeology replacements–yours is absolutely the first neutral, intelligent and informative one I have seen. I will check out your other videos!

    omg she's such a beauty :O

  34. The Shady Brunch Posted on August 16, 2016 at 6:32 am

I love using my Vega One powder i mix it with coconut water, fruits and some greens freak. Its delish. I don't hate shakeology but don't like that its part of a multi level marketing project.

  35. 247addiction Posted on December 29, 2016 at 7:45 am

Vega one gives me a nice break from eating solid food, especially meats.

I have a hard time with digestion (ibs).

I also use the pre and post- work-out product. Very happy w results. No sore muscles (Dom).

I just added the sport one vega to my line-up. It's very rich so I have add almost 4 cups of water.

I'm on the 8th vega one and 4th pre/post tubs.

  36. irais24 Posted on January 31, 2017 at 1:31 am

I agree shakeology is good but for me it's to expensive plus i still like to buy my pre work out BCAA so it came out to much for me every single month I'll stick with Vega one and buy all my things for the price of shakeology unless you have money to spend them go ahead

  37. V-Dub82 Posted on March 31, 2017 at 1:17 pm

Goji berries are extremely bad for you by the way.

  38. Jeremy Hickman Posted on August 4, 2017 at 8:43 pm

Does Vega one have the prebiotics and probiotics like Shakeology?

  39. PreschoolMUSIC Posted on November 20, 2017 at 6:04 pm

Thanks for the review!! I was really trying to find the best shake closest to shakeology for a cheaper price. This review really helped!!

  40. Todd Lawrence Posted on June 5, 2018 at 5:31 am

Plant Head Real Meal is the Best Nutrition shake ! ( added multi vitamins do not help your health or make you live longer, not even added whole food vitamins )

  41. jwathas Posted on July 14, 2018 at 7:29 am

Shakeology is WAY too expensive. Their prices are absolutely ridiculous. I could purchase it if I really wanted to, but that $130 price tag really makes me cringe and I just can't justify spending that kind of money of protein shakes. I just placed an order for Vega One on Amazon today in the chocolate flavor. I really love the ingredients and the fact that it's plant based. It also got great reviews. I plan to replace 1-2 meals per day with these shakes. It will be here on Monday and I'm super excited to try it!

  42. 5537 Posted on December 22, 2018 at 3:49 pm

Where do I get the msm?

  43. princessooppers Posted on February 9, 2019 at 12:40 pm

Very informative. I’ve been testing the Shakeology waters but yes the price scares me ! I’m excited now that there is a cheaper alternative ❤️
