So what if someone were to fast. That would obviously take away their methionine intake from food.

Would the cancer simply get its methionine from our body's sources such as what happens in starvation when our body eats our own muscles for energy?

Well, if you spend your teens and twenties handling carcinogenic metals with your bare hands . . . A plant based diet is as close to a magic bullet as the human species has, but it cannot counteract the effects of everything in everyone.

since the cancer cells need it for growth none would be optimal
as you see from the chart that is not feasible because even fruit contains a small amount and not eating is not an option

the best diet would probably one high in fruit but for that to work properly you need to eat veggies to

look for the 80 10 10 Diet (fruit based raw)

or Forks over Knives Book(plant based cooked)
you can reduce the the bean and grain contend of the forks over knives recieps for greater effect (potatos go !)

What a great video, I love the fact that all this is backed up with scientific evidence so that its not the age old hippy vegan trying tip impress ideas and make the carnivore uncomfortable coz I can now state that this and othe videos have clear cut evidence of the nutritional benefits of a vegan diet void of preservatives, refined sugars, artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners, namely a whole foods vegan diet.

methionine is actually an essential amino acid. meaning, we need it yet don't produce it. but it appears to only be needed in trace amounts, just about the amount found in plant-based foods. As is typical.

@safenders in order for yout loved one to slow down/reverse his cancer, you know the age old "you can bring a horse to water…" All you can do without chaining him up and force feeding him a vegan diet you need to make him watch videos like Vegucated, fat, sick & nearly dead, forks over knives and show him youtube vids like this one.

Also he needs to feel like he is not giving anything up, I find the dipping your toes in approach works best however if he is as sick as you say he really needs to take the full approach now of mostly raw fruits and veggies, or lightly steamed veggies, nuts/seeds especially flax seeds (ground), lots of juices (fresh ones), and cut processed/animal derived foods down to nothing. BUT he will have detox symptoms not only normal ones but cancer ones and the drugs he has taken will come back through

What are your thoughts on the reduced glycine intake as a reason why methionine poses such a problem for humans?

Many years ago (our grandparents and before them) humans would kill and eat the ENTIRE animal, not just the muscle meat. The bones, cartilage, and organs were eaten too. That is the "whole food" concept.

Muscle meats are high in methionine, but collagen from bones, cartilage, and organs contains high levels of glycine.

Glycine is what your liver uses to rid the body of excess methionine.

Our bodies make glycine endogenously. However, perhaps our livers lack enough glycine to deal with all of the methionine that we are eating because we no longer eat the other parts of the animal…just the muscle meat.

Glycine is one of the strongest inflammation-modulating proteins there is. If you eat bone broth, gelatin, or supplement with glycine daily, there is a good possibility that methionine intake will not pose a problem.

If you will note, the published charts and information he's using are dated 1974. That a long, long time ago folks. I see he published this in September 2013. Wouldn't you think he would have had much more current data? Would have been much more convincing to me if he had. Maybe I'm missing something.

selenomethionine selenium is an anticancer mineral they say. Perhaps we should be putting anticancer elements along with methionine plus a low methionine diet to target the cancer cells, which like to gobble up the methionine stuff?? That is how oncologists should be using chemo, ie fast before treatment so the chemo goes where it is most wanted, the starving cancer cells. In much lower doses of course, but the oncologists make more $$ selling more chemo, or so the rumour goes.

Plus supporting this slow COMT they have found to help estrogen shift to a safer excretion pathway? Looking at the 2/4/ and16 hydroxyestrogen ratio, Magnesium and methionine are precursors form COMT. This is a interesting point and side to look at that I will explore more. Thank you for all the work and research you provide. H

    Eating foods containing METHIONINE
    Get plenty of sunshine
    Take organic sulfur

    This approach to cancer prevention?

    Not eating foods containing methionine

Methionine can be made in the body from methylating homocysteine in presence of folic acid and B12 vitamin, I wonder if not only one should restrict Methionine from the diet as well as vitamin B12 and Folate, these two vitamins also participate in DNA synthesis, and therefore allow a cell to do more mitosis. As we know more mitosis is a hallmark of cancer cells. Something else I have been thinking is Methionine is also the transfer RNA start codon of all protein synthesis of the body, so without it protein synthesis in the body becomes restricted.

The gov't mandated in the late 1990's that all grains, corn products, and rice be fortified with a cheap synthetic called folic acid…that builds up … and gets in the way of using folate from the food you eat.. folate is critical in building nucleotides and producing the amino acid methionine . China is making hundreds of millions in profits annually on this one product. Those people who have been put on low fat diets are probably taking an excess amount of the made-in-china folic acid … folate is necessary to produce meithionine. And nucleotide synthesis. You may already be short of methionine. and have chronic diseases like cancers, heart disease, autoimmune disorders, and dementia from it. It's something to consider. The folic acid thing is one of the most studied and written about topics in nutrition and yet the public, the doctors, have never heard of it. I only recently began reading about it and I'm so upset I can hardly speak… as you can read in this comment.
