The Quest for Chaffle Perfection: 4 Viewer Submissions Tested

hey there it’s Steve from SeriousKeto
and in this video I’m gonna try out a
number of suggestions that I received in
the comments section of my next level
chaffle video which I’ll link to if you
haven’t seen but before we do that if
you enjoy low-carb cooking videos
product and ingredient reviews as well
as lessons learn from my experiences
with the ketogenic lifestyle and
intermittent fasting click that
subscribe button down there while you’re
at it click the bell next to it so
you’re notified whenever I release a new
video I was shocked and and humbled and
grateful for all the views that I got on
that next level travel video that I did
I truly I it was mind-blowing to me I
didn’t expect that kind of response
didn’t expect my channel to kind of blow
up the way it did so quickly so I really
want to thank everybody that watched
that video everybody that subscribed
like I said it it really means a lot to
me and I got a ton of comments and
suggestions that I felt would be fun to
make some follow-up videos on probably
the number one comment that I received
is I need to take smaller bites of food
in terms of the chaffle itself the
number one suggestion that I received
was rather than mixing the mozzarella
and egg together put them in separately
do sprinkle of cheese
followed by egg followed by more cheese
so the first thing we’re gonna do we’re
gonna put the base chaffle against the
cheese egg cheese style chaffle
let’s see how they look
definitely a cheesy crust on that one so
let’s see how they taste
smaller bite still great still
everything I love about the base chaffle
now let’s try the cheese egg cheese
okay now I realize why this seemed to be
the number one suggestion on my other
video if you enjoy the crispy mozzarella
on the outside of a pizza or a tray of
lasagna this you’re gonna adore so this
is a win I give this a big thumbs up
let’s move on the next most common
suggestions that I received in the
comments section were the addition of
almond flour or coconut flour to the
base chaffle so I think this is going to
be an interesting experiment because I
see lots of posts where people use
almond flour coconut flour and people
ask if you can substitute one for the
other so here we actually are gonna have
a straight-up head-to-head between
almond flour and coconut flour to see
what it does to taste and texture
you can tell already that the coconut
flour absorbs a lot more liquid it’s
much more thick so the coconut flour one
didn’t expand nearly as much and it
browned quite a bit more the almond
flour looks a lot more like a
traditional chaffle I guess let’s see
how they stack up on taste and texture
first the coconut flour that has a very
interesting flavor not bad not coconutty
not eggy
it’s definitely crispy err texturally it
is a lot more dense than any of the
chapel’s that I’ve done so far as you
look at it you would think it would
taste really really edgy but it doesn’t
I think this would be a good sandwich
chaffle if you’re looking for putting a
little bit more density into your chavo
something that could hold up better to
something like a burger let’s just see
what the almond flour
tastes like in comparison
so the almond flower definitely makes a
wafflier
chaffle but I don’t know that it tastes
better than adding a tablespoon of carb
quick which I thought was pretty great
it certainly doesn’t taste better than
using the cinnamon crunch quest protein
powder but I think if you don’t have
either of those this makes a solid
waffle waffle that you could put butter
and syrup on sugar free of course
so both these great suggestions again
thank you to everyone who commented
another popular suggestion within the
comments was substituting out mozzarella
and instead using two ounces of softened
cream cheese in the recipe so let’s give
it a try
definitely a more battery consistency
very delicate without a doubt this is
the most delicate of all the chaffles
I’ve done so far I’m trying to cite how
you would use this particular trifle
just because it is so delicate I don’t
know that it would stand up as a bun it
tastes really darn good just on its own
maybe for the last minute or so in the
waffle maker you sprinkle a little sharp
cheddar or something on top of it and
then you know get a nice crust on it I
don’t know for those of you who
suggested using the cream cheese method
tell me how you use it and if it turned
out it’s light and delicate for you as
well so that’s the end of the first
round of user submitted comments that
I’m gonna try out none of them was a
failure I think each one of them had
their own particular uses and I could
see experimenting with them further
depending on what my end goal is when
I’m trying to add additional ingredients
in my next chaffle video we’re gonna
take a look at some of the less common
ingredients that people suggested such
as xanthan gum vital wheat gluten
nutritional yeast and one suggestion of
using sour cream and yeast in the recipe
see how that turns out anyhow that’s it
for this video stay tuned for the next
one and thanks for watching

I think the cream cheese version works well with desert type chaffles. I've seen chocolate, pumpkin spice, and a whole host of other desert chaffles which use cream cheese as the cheese. The ones I've tried so far have been fabulous.

Also, my favorite version of the chaffle is to mix the two techniques. I put cheese directly on the waffle maker but also in the egg mixture. It's my favorite way to make them so far.

I would suggest you get some of the family into your videos. Great set up. I love how you can see what you are doing step by step The lighting on the food could be better. Was the cheese/egg/cheese one really black like that or what that the lighting? Did it taste burnt?. The family member would give you someone to interact with.

Quick q….what if we treated the mix like a fathead pizza dough? Or something similar….Do u think that would work? Maybe that would work better in the pancake machine…I am blown away how much I like the chaffle. I usually dont jump on fads but this one is awesome and only tried it after watching your carbquick test! Thanks for doing all these experiments for us…really helps those of us that are culinary challenged….;)

1tbsp almond flour is equivalent to 1tsp coconut flour!
Use the appropriate amount of coconut flour! That's not apples to apples🤦‍♀️

Cream cheese with coconut flour and whey protein is my favorite sweet chaffle!
Favorite savory chaffle is with goat cheese, garlic, salt, and Italian seasoning!

My favorite cream cheese chaffle for breakfast or dessert, that I actually like better than any SAD diet waffle is the following:
    Makes approx. 4 waffles
    Basic waffle:
2 oz cream cheese, softened & whipped with a fork or whisk
    2 eggs beaten
    1 T coconut flour
1 T powdered erythritol sweetner of choice
    1 t. vanilla
    1/2 t. baking powder
Cook to desired brownness or crispiness, I like to go about 4 minutes on mine.

    Add in's:
1/8 c. canned pumpkin & pumpkin pie spice to batter + 1/2 T. additional coconut flour
    1/8 c. blueberries + 1/2 T. additional coconut flour

Top with copious amounts of grass fed butter & sugar free syrup of choice, berries, powdered sugar free sweetner of choice, whipped cream, peanut butter & jelly, etc….ENJOY!

Thanks for your videos and they have helped me.

But I have to say that sometimes I feel sorry for the Americans, how silly they are when something becomes very famous – like this "chaffle" nonsense.

    What nonsense!

"Now, BIG news !!! Let's see how egg and cheese in a waffle maker is !!!"

"Now let's add some vanilla drops and the world will change !!!"

"Now let's add stevia and everything will be totally different !!!"

"Now let's make pizza flavor … WOW !!! My life will never be the same !!!"

I apologize for the trouble here, but I am really tired of seeing the same things without any news and that they say NEW.

I've been at Keto for 2 years now and I was doing it so 'cause I miss something crunchy to eat from time to time. And I always change cheeses, like mozzarella and cream cheese, for example.
The experiment is the name of the game on Keto…
It is only necessary to understand the reason for using one and not the other. What end product you want.

My suggestion is doing like this: Cheese first for about 40 seconds, then pour the egg and wait about 1 minute, then sprinkle more cheese over it – close your "device". Try don't let it get too dark like your first try doing that way.

Once again, thank you for your videos and all the time, effort and work it requires to make them come true.

    Hello Steve! Another great one!
I use "flavored" cream cheeses, my sweet chaffle (bowl) is half strawberry cream cheese and half mozzarella equaling amount required.

Savory is usually a "bun" half jalapeno flavored cream cheese and half mozzarella, w/added mixture of green onion, green pepper, and spices. Tuna sandwich!!!

Way too much coconut flour dude. I've been doing this with one or two slightly rounded teaspoons depending whether I was going to use it as a bun or not . Two if by bun. the normal ratio for substituting coconut flour with almond flour is twice as much almond to coconut. Not to say that they will directly substitute in every recipe they just won't. Coconut flour I like to think of as a lot closer to cornmeal in texture. And almond flour closer to wheat flour in texture. Retry this with one teaspoon rounded of coconut flour and 2 teaspoons of almond flour, and see how you like that.

About my journey: I lost 85 lb. in '18…. plateaued on cruise in late Sept… over next 6 month… I was in fairly constant cheet-keto..which rarely got any ketosis…(if ever) gained 20-25 lbs… which bummed me, but still had a net 55-60 loss… which is way cool… But your videos have certainly helped me to re-engage… SERIOUSly… I've got somewhere between 75-90 lbs to get to where I will be able to tell what my weight should be… Thankful for Keto! Thankful for your work here, Steve. KETO ON! Seriously!

When I did the cheese egg cheese method, it stuck to the waffle iron and it got destroyed trying to get it off. Yes i used spray. So i like the mix method. 2ndly, if I'm doing a sweet recipe I'm thinking that the cream cheese would work best. 3rd, instead of flours I use fiber if I want a cakey texture.

I just think coconut flour make a dry anything. Almond flour tastes so much better to me. But enjoying some avocado toast before work.

Instead of shredded cheese, try the Sargento Ultra Thin cheese slices. Lay one down, then your batter, top with another slice of cheese. It's the perfect amount of cheese to give you a perfect crisp chaffle; great for a sandwich.

I've been making the chaffle with cream cheese add a dash of vanilla extract, almond flour and cinnamon. Once cooked I egg wash it and throw it on a buttered skillet for a frenchaffle toast.

The cream cheese chaffle makes a great dessert type chaffle.

Also, what about a cooling rack to rest on after 5-6 minutes cook time. It keeps the condensation from the warm waffle from making it soggy on the plate. I always cool mine and then if you want to add butter or whatever, just do it…❤️🧚🏻‍♀️

Per the wife, try 1/3 cup shredded cheese, 2tbsp oat fiber, 1 egg per chaffle

Thanks for the idea of a sour cream chaffle. I had not yet thought of that. I think I will like a chaffle that has tiny bits of veggies in it, too.

I think you linked the wrong iron. What you have linked is a mini flat griddle? Not a waffle iron

Little bit of xanthan gum with the cream cheese mixture works wonders. I like to add protein powder, too.

I think that the most popular use of the cream cheese/egg mixture is a base for a sweet chaffle rather then a savory. Chocolate, cinnamon roll, etc…
